Functional Movement Screening

A functional movement screening (FMS) consists of seven movement assessments designed to identify areas of imbalances and asymmetries by testing your mobility and stability. The FMS tool is based on fundamental movement patterns, which over time can become inefficient due to compensatory movement patterns from daily activities. FMS will offer insights into keeping your body functioning properly as you progress toward your fitness and wellness goals. A certified professional will lead you through the assessment and then provide you with corrective exercises to implement.

The FMS is open to all MSU students, faculty, staff and their spouses for a small fee.

What’s the difference between FMS and the Comprehensive Fitness Assessment?

The functional movement screen (FMS) consists of seven movement assessments designed to identify areas of imbalances and asymmetries by testing your mobility and stability. FMS will offer insights into keeping your body functioning properly as you progress toward your fitness and wellness goals. The Comprehensive Fitness Assessment consists of resting and exercising assessments which will help establish baseline fitness measurements that can then be used to set goals, monitor performance, and assess progress throughout your exercise program.
